A little closer to home National Geographic has brought us to some of the most exotic places on earth including Africa. Africa is the second largest continent on the Earth and is rich with culture and natural resources. Often these two can clash as seen by the hunting of the African elephant for Ivory. This is a valuable export for Africa because much of it leaves the country for use in jewelry and currency. This issue was brought to readers all over the world in a 1980 Article called “African Elephants How Can They Survive?” by Oria Douglas-Hamilton. Along with this article were stunning images that showed readers the beauty of this animal in its natural habitat. In an article “Plants can Recognize, Communicate with Relatives, Studies find” by James Owen. Discusses how plants behave differently when planted with the same species as opposed to “strangers”. Emerging explorer Mark Olson takes a new look at trees in his video “A New Perspective on Trees”.
