How to Clean Paint Brushes

Keeping paint brushes in prime shape means you have to make sure you clean them properly after each use. If you're using quality paint brushes, you may be able to hold onto these tools for a lifetime. Here's how you clean them.

If you're using latex paint, soak the brush immediately after use in water. If you're using an oil-based paint, soak the brush in mineral spirits. After soaking, clean out the paint brush with a brush comb. Make sure you clean the portion of the paint brush where the bristles and the metal meet.

One way to make cleaning paint brushes easier is by wrapping a 2-1/4" wide strip of masking tape around the metal portion of the brush. Allow the tape to overlap the bristles about 3/4". This helps to keep paint out of the connection point.

Paint Roller Tips for a Perfect Paint Job

If you want to quickly apply fresh paint to your walls, a paint roller is the perfect tool for the task. Getting the job done well and efficiently just requires a little know-how and practice. Here's a surefire way to get a great paint job with a paint roller.

First, get the proper equipment. Use a paint bucket with a screen. Fill the bucket up part way. Dip the paint roller into the paint bucket and squeeze out any excess paint on the screen. And you're now ready to apply paint onto the wall.

If you need to take a breather during painting, the best thing to do is wrap the paint roller with plastic and squeeze out any remaining air. When you're ready to paint again, just remove the plastic and you can begin again. Keep in mind that after each use, you should clean out the screen and bucket before the paint dries.
